Thank you to all the skippers that ventured down to South Yunderup to enjoy the day.
Sometimes we get lucky with our weather and we can turn on the perfect conditions for an easy afternoon of sailing.
Today was not that lucky, we set up for the light North, North East winds predicted and at 11.00 am were excited as the direction was correct and the breeze had about 2-6knots of strength. But by the start, we ended up with a confusing course of easterly winds at one end and north easterly at the top end. There was however no rain and warm sunshine.
So we used the club's rescue boat and the bigger drop buoys which gives us a better choice when the swirl and we need a better course option.
Let me suggest, that we had some great racing but there was mixed direction and strengths to the breezes which are difficult to sail.
We also had issues with the NOR entry system which did not open until 5 days ago thus several key skippers were not with us. We apologize for those issues.
Today was a ranking event for the WA DF95 fleet so we did have some excellent sailors in attendance and thank them again for coming.
Unfortunately, we lost Fred to a servo gremlin just as he was leading the pack. Mal pulled out a few races near the start but entered the fray again a little later.
For the most part, the racing was very orderly but the top mark was placed out in the middle of the lake and for many, it was difficult to see their boat in high traffic situations.
As a result, those that could stay clear found themselves out near in front for the next downward leg, and is a lesson for new skippers. Give yourselves room to get around the buoy. All of us at some stage had an issue up there at some point today.
Our winner today was Wayne Colman in his purple flying machine. He was very quick upwind and stayed well clear of other boats thus deserved the win on 14 points.
In second was Donks from Ian Sherriff both on 15 points so it came to an Afleet count back. It was great to have Ian back with us on the lake and he sailed very well as usual.
We thank Kevin Matthews for his kind donation of two small tool kits that suit the DF boat well. These were offered to the winners along with a bottle of wine as the trophies.
