Our winner today was Nick Jerwood, well done mate it was fun to watch you work your way through the fleet on so many occasions in your high-vis orange boat.
It started with chilly rainy northeasterly winds which tested skipper's spirits for the first 4 races then after lunch three races that were dry calm drift sessions then finally fresh Westerly breezes that let the bigger DF boats fly. We covered three seasons all in one day. Best of all the guys achieved a fantastic 16 races today which was awesome.
There were 11 skippers from five clubs represented today which given the torrent of rain that hit WA really early this morning on your way down to South Yunderup is a testament to the resolve of these guys, it was an awesome effort and a huge thank you for making the day enjoyable and fun.
The sailing was strong with a good mix of experience and some newer DF95 skippers testing their skills with the fleet. It was very noticeable that room to maneuver was offered on many occasions by most skippers, so contacts were rare but there were still a few which were unfortunate. We saw some great starts and even better finishes where the margins were tiny between boats. Later in the day, the sun did cause some issues over the top mark for those that could not walk up closer but in general, the course was open and offered good tacking duals for all.
Right on his tail was the team Viney with Adam one race place behind and Ron a few behind him, each taking turns to chase the leader, well-sailed boys.
Other great efforts on the day were Carl, Sherriff, Chris, and David who all had a few great races but also a few that dragged their days total outward, in reality, they were all very close in nearly every race
